Behind the Brand
Firsthand Supply, founded by longtime friends Filipe Inacio and Josh Hester, was born out of a need for clean and truly effective hair care products. A Brazilian with thick and coarse hair, Filipe couldn’t find a pomade that styled and held his hair the way he wanted, let alone one that wasn’t filled with weird chemicals. He would go through various hair products and read the ingredient lists on the packaging, only to realize that they were packed with unfamiliar toxins. To solve his own problem, Filipe started testing the development of a pomade out of his small apartment in Beverly, Massachusetts. While there was initially no intention of turning the pomade into a business, this marked the birth of Firsthand.
A year and over 50 iterations later, Filipe landed on a formulation that actually worked for his hair. Josh joined shortly thereafter to help bring the product to market and they added a few more products to the line-up. After realizing that there were many others who were experiencing the same problems with existing hair care products Josh and Filipe both quit their full-time jobs to launch Firsthand properly. This involved an 11-month rebrand process, the hiring of a few more people (including a chemist!), and a move into a commercial facility where they worked 15-hour days to build out their own in-house manufacturing plant. Fast forward to today, Firsthand Supply has created a platform of clean, sustainable, and effective products that is safe for all body types. From honest ingredients to ethical production, the team is making products that put people first.
