Behind the Brand
Prevail Jerky was founded by husband-and-wife duo Glen and Ashley Kohn. The origins of Prevail go back to 2004, when Ashley was diagnosed with celiac disease and changed the way the Kohn family ate. The Kohns, including two kids with serious food allergies, began to eliminate gluten, soy, dairy, and refined sugars from their foods and adopted a paleo diet. This disqualified many of the snacks that they used to enjoy, and they found it extremely difficult to find clean snacks that met their standards for taste. Glen, who had always enjoyed cooking and smoking meats, was especially nostalgic for beef jerky. He worked on creating a homemade jerky recipe that his wife and kids would be able to enjoy, eventually creating a version so delicious that the Kohns knew they needed to sell it.
To kick off their business, Glen and Ashley set out to source the highest-quality beef they could find. They landed on 100% grass-fed and antibiotic-free beef from family-owned farms in New Zealand, enabling them to produce an exceptionally tender jerky with minimal ingredients. From day one (and to this day), Glen and Ashley slow-cooked each batch of jerky in small batches. They developed a proprietary flavor blend containing organic spices from all over the world and actually smoke their jerky with authentic cherry wood smoke. Through Prevail, the Kohns are making clean snacking more accessible and delicious to all, one bag of jerky at a time.
