Behind the Brand
Jot was founded in 2019 by Andrew Gordon and Palo Hawken. Andrew, former co-founder of protein bar company Square Organics, had initially met Palo, co-founder of plant-based beverage brand REBBL, through previous business partnerships and collaborations. The idea for Jot had started brewing back in 2016, when Palo was brainstorming various manufacturing techniques for a convenient ready-to-drink coffee with the intention of launching a future product. He wanted to create a production-friendly and lightweight coffee that could be shipped easily but still tasted like a world-class blend. He tested freeze-dried coffee, which was easy to transport, but found that it didn’t meet his high flavor standards. Through his relentless experimentation, Palo eventually cracked the code with a liquid coffee concentrate. He realized that a coffee made from this concentrate actually tasted better than the coffee he was brewing at home, and reached out to now co-founder Andrew to help bring the product to life.
As soon as he tasted Palo’s liquid concentrate, Andrew was all in. While the team started out in San Francisco, they eventually moved their manufacturing facility to the food and beverage hub of Boulder, Colorado. They initially delayed their launch in light of COVID, but a month into the pandemic, the team realized it would be a no-brainer to offer an effortless at-home coffee experience to a quarantining audience. Jot launched to a huge wave of positive feedback and was named one of Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies of 2022. Now with over 12,000 glowing reviews, Jot has evidently stolen the hearts of coffee lovers all over the country.
