Behind the Brand
Monday was conceived by six San Diego entrepreneurs on an idea inspired by founder Chris Boyd's birthday night out. It was a Sunday and Chris was out with his friends sitting at the bar having some gin. The bartender was pure magic, serving up some amazing bevvies, but after a couple, despite how much he was enjoying the goods, Chris stopped and switched to water. Everyone wondered why, and he answered: "Because tomorrow is Monday and I have sh*t to do, and I want to do that sh*t well." Curiosity sparked at that moment – why couldn't he have proper adult cocktails without the alcohol so he could keep on tonight and be sharp in the morning?
A little later, Chris ran into a friend (Ben, now co-founder at Monday) at the gym who he hadn't seen in a while. They exchanged updates and Ben asked, "So what's next for you?” Chris let him know that he was thinking about creating a non-alcoholic gin, and Ben's eyes lit up, sharing that he too had a similar story (avid gin fan and serial entrepreneur with no time to feel sluggish after one too many). A few weeks later, Chris and Ben went to work, reaching out to 80+ distilleries in search of a partner. Most laughed them off the phone, which fired them up to push harder until they found their award-winning shop they work closely with to this day. They didn't have a company back then, and after a short briefing on the London Dry they wanted to create, Ben wrote a personal check to get the first batch going. Later that first year, Chris and Ben launched Monday on Kickstarter, hitting their goal after just 2 days live. Fast forward to today, they've welcomed in 100,000+ customers who enjoy their full-range of award-winning, non-alcoholic spirits (including newcomers Whiskey & Mezcal) and curated cocktail kits.
