Behind the Brand

Toodaloo was founded by Cattie Khoury. Due to her love for processed and unhealthy snack foods, Cattie — a lifelong snack lover — was overweight and frequently bullied as a child, causing her to develop mental health and body image issues. Over time, however, Cattie managed to find solace in the environment; she felt healed in nature, grew to love the environment, and developed a desire to save the Earth. While studying environmental sustainability in college, Cattie discovered that plant-based nutrition was not only beneficial for human health, but also healing for the planet. She was astonished by her findings but didn’t know what to do with the information until the onset of COVID pandemic.

As the country entered lockdown and quarantine, Cattie began to stress-eat the same unhealthy snack foods from her childhood. Consequently, she was rapidly gaining weight and feeling depressed and anxious. One of the snack foods that Cattie found herself regularly gorging on was trail mix, and upon examining the ingredient list, she realized that it primarily contained candy and inflammatory oils. Cattie, a cooking and nutrition enthusiast, was confident that she could make a better trail mix. She bought a dehydrator from Amazon and started tinkering in her kitchen, adding in adaptogenic herbs that were healing for the body. To her pleasant surprise, her mixes turned out absolutely delicious and she handed them out to some friends, who fell in love with the taste and started asking for more. This marked the beginning of the Toodaloo journey. Today, Cattie continues to live out her mission to heal the mind, body, and environment through her functional and crave-worthy trail mix.

Meet the Maker

What has been your most unforgettable moment (good or bad) while building your company? - +

The most unforgettable moment in building my company was seeing my product on the shelves for the first time. Our very first retail partner was Erewhon in Los Angeles, not far away from the town I grew up in. It was so surreal to think that the brand I dreamed up in my apartment kitchen during quarantine is now sitting on some of the most prestigious grocery store shelves in the country.

What is your favorite thing to do in your free time? - +

My favorite thing to do in my free time is to cook. There is something meditative about cooking for me that calms my nervous system. It's an act of kindness of love to myself and those I'm cooking for. There is so much love that goes into food, from the earth, to the farmer, to our bellies and I love experiencing that first hand. The days that I can go shop at farmers markets, purchase vegetables that I've never tried before and go home to cook for the people I love are some of my favorite days of my life.

What is an essential part of your daily routine? - +

Everyday, I have to get outside first thing in the morning and I have to spend at least a few hours outdoors. I am the biggest outdoor girl because it soothes my soul and makes me feel connected to the world around me. Whether just walking my dog along the trail, wakesurfing or hiking, I have to move my body outside to feel aligned.

What is your biggest pet peeve? - +

My biggest pet peeve is when people treat servers or other workers with disrespect. To me, that is a red flag that says that person has a lot of negative energy within them that they do not know how to process.

What is one thing most people don’t know about you? - +

Most people don't know that I have struggled with addictive tendencies for many years. Most people think because of my beliefs and lifestyle now that I have always lived a holistic life, but the truth is I fell in love with these practices because they helped to heal many of my harmful patterns and life's wounds.

What do you want to be remembered for? - +

I hope to be remembered as someone who made others feel seen, loved and lighter inside so that they could really feel love for themselves and the world around them.
