Behind the Brand
Neuro was founded by Ryan Chen and Kent Yoshimura, who met during college and became fast friends. Ryan trained with the US Paralympic team and held a 2nd degree black belt in Kendo, while Kent trained with the Japanese Olympic Judo team and competed internationally in Muay Thai. To help balance school and training, Kent was creating his own supplements in his apartment, mixing caffeine and amino acid powders together for a boost of clean energy. In October of 2015, Kent and Ryan were on a scuba diving trip when the idea for Neuro hit them. They had taken out a Ziploc bag of the supplements in pill form when they realized how strange this looked to the others on the boat, leading them to wonder if there was a more convenient and accessible way to get their energy boost.
Kent and Ryan began thinking about the ideal form factor for energy delivery and ultimately landed on gum. They researched and reached out to countless gum manufacturers, getting rejected by every single one until they found one willing to take a chance on a pair of first-time entrepreneurs in their 20s. Surviving off McDonald’s burgers, Kent and Ryan poured their life savings into Neuro. They spent almost a year on product development, going through 5 different iterations of the product, before launching an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign and surpassing their $10,000 goal in just 3 days. Today, Kent and Ryan have expanded their product line and their functional gum and mints can be found in over 12,000 stores nationwide, helping thousands refresh their state of mind and become the best version of themselves.
