Behind the Brand
Everist was launched by beauty industry veterans Jayme Jenkins and Jessica Stevenson, who met during business school. As alums of major beauty companies like L’Oreal and Revlon, Jayme and Jessica witnessed firsthand the massive amount of plastic waste in the industry. Both co-founders shared a desire to create a more sustainable solution to this issue, and they bonded over their mutual interest in developing a zero-waste brand. Through their research, Jayme and Jessica came across an interesting opportunity in hair care, where nearly all formulas are over 70% water and, due to increased amounts of packaging materials and shipping emissions, take a large toll on the environment. In the fall of 2019, they decided to finally take the leap and create the industry’s first waterless shampoo and conditioner concentrates.
Jayme and Jessica enlisted the help of a chemist to help with product development, but they quickly realized that production was not going to be easy. They approached 10 different manufacturers, all of whom deemed their concept impossible, but finally found a local one that thought it might be viable. After two long years of research and development, they landed on a paste that lathered beautifully when activated by water. Jayme and Jessica identified a sustainable packaging partner to create their aluminum tubes and filed for a patent on their unique formula. They launched Everist to admiration from all over the country, with their products winning awards from major beauty publications and being recognized as one of Time’s “Best Inventions of 2021”. Fast forward to today, Everist continues to spearhead and revolutionize the sustainable beauty industry with their innovative takes on traditional beauty products.
