Behind the Brand

June was founded by Hedi Rappard. Hedi, who started menstruating at the age of 13, had always struggled with heavy and painful periods. She constantly wondered why her periods were so painful, but never equated her issues to the period products she was using. Originally a pad user, Hedi made the transition from bulky pads to tampons in high school, but over the next few years her cramps became unbearable and debilitating. Once her body began to reject the tampons, Hedi turned to Google to find a better solution. Her research uncovered the shocking amount of chemicals that often went into pads and tampons; instead of catering to the health and needs of menstruators, major brands were always designing their products with maximized profit in mind. She also started to grow aware of the plastic waste that single-use pads and tampons generated. Armed with this newfound knowledge, Hedi set out to establish an alternative period care company based on transparency, safety, and accessibility.

Hedi had previously tried a number of menstrual cups on the market, but she found all of them to be uncomfortable and not entirely leak-proof. She knew that she wanted to create a better menstrual cup — one that would empower menstruators and give them peace of mind. Using medical-grade silicone, she designed an upgraded version that she later discovered also shortened her periods and lessened her cramps. Hedi was pleasantly surprised to see that her customers were also experiencing the same benefits. Today, the June team continues on their mission to offer safe, affordable, sustainable, and accessible alternatives to traditional menstrual care products. Now with over 100,000 customers, they are changing the way menstruators view menstrual care.
