Behind the Brand
Mmmly was born out of founder Nick Naclerio’s personal struggle with sugary and processed foods. During his teen years, Nick found himself in an unhealthy and disordered relationship with food. He realized that he wasn’t being thoughtful with what he was eating and neglected proper nutrition, so he embarked on a health journey to improve his well-being. Nick enrolled in culinary school, learned how to create different types of fancy desserts, and even gained a few years of experience working as a pastry chef in several Michelin-star restaurants, but he still didn’t feel that he truly enjoyed what he was doing. Around the same time, he had adopted a healthier diet and was on the search for better snack options for himself. While he was seeing countless new food brands launching into the market every week, Nick noticed a lack of nutritious yet actually tasty snacks. This realization propelled him to start something of his own.
In order to gain some business experience, Nick decided to spend some time working for other successful business owners, and one of these business owners ended up writing Nick a check to start recipe testing for what would ultimately become Mmmly. Nick worked seven days a week in his NYC studio apartment, baking cookie after cookie and learning shelf life development. He spent six months developing the recipe, and then another year and a half finalizing it. He then raised some capital to develop the brand packaging with a freelance graphic designer. Eventually, Nick’s hard work paid off and today, Mmmly is redefining the sugary cookie category through functional and purposeful treats.
