Behind the Brand
Wonder Monday was founded by life partners Candace Wu and Jonathan Weinstein. During the middle of the COVID pandemic in 2020, Candace decided to leave her job at Weight Watchers, while Jonathan had also just left the startup he had previously co-founded. The idea for Wonder Monday was sparked when they came across an old The Cheesecake Factory gift card in Jonathan’s wallet. After using the card and enjoying a slice of cheesecake, Candace and Jonathan were horrified to later discover how many carbs, added sugars, and artificial ingredients they had just consumed. Searching for healthier options, they began to realize that there was a severe lack of innovation in the cheesecake category. They set out to reinvent the universally-loved cheesecake — without all the sugar, carbs, and junk.
With zero prior experience in creating a food product, Candace and Jonathan spent over a year experimenting in their own kitchen with various ingredients, striving to create a better-for-you cheesecake that tasted like the real deal. Once they landed on a recipe they were happy with, they found a small pilot manufacturer and published a basic website to test customer demand. They saw instant traction and knew they had created something special. Fast forward to today, Wonder Monday has reimagined one of America’s favorite desserts with their low-carb, low-sugar, and high-protein cheesecakes.
