Behind the Brand
WTHN was established by co-founders Michelle Larivee and Dr. Shari Auth. With over a decade of experience in healthcare under her belt, Michelle was working as a healthcare consultant when a ski accident left her with dislocated vertebrae in her neck and a fracture in her back. Suffering from chronic pain, Michelle tried physical therapy, muscle relaxers, and a variety of western medicines to no avail. One day, at the suggestion of her doctor, she decided to try acupuncture. The pain relief from her first session was instantaneous, and Michelle — exhilarated by the results — began to receive acupuncture on a regular basis. Over time, she noticed that she was sleeping better and feeling less stressed. As she grew more interested in ancient healing practices, she incorporated Chinese herbs into her diet and realized that she was also getting sick less frequently.
In 2016, Michelle was introduced to her eventual co-founder Shari through one of Shari’s clients. Shari, an acupuncturist with over 20 years of experience, had acquired licenses in a number of different fields including Acupuncture, Chinese Medicine, and Physical Therapy. Bonding over a shared interest in ancient healing and desire to help others, Michelle and Shari set out to promote eastern medicine in the western world. They spent almost 2 years formulating their products and building their flagship acupuncture studio, now open 7 days a week in New York City’s Flatiron district. Today, the WTHN team is on a mission to make acupuncture and herbal medicine accessible to the masses. Through a modern and approachable brand, they are spreading awareness of and educating consumers on the true efficacy of ancient healing.
